Nobody Is Coming To Discover You
The discovery story is the most expensive myth in this industry. What actually moves is built, and it is built from four things you already own.
Every few months a story goes around about an artist who was discovered. Somebody heard a snippet, made a call, and a career started. The story is always true and it is almost never repeatable, which is the part that gets left out.
What is repeatable is much less romantic. It is capital, access, and consistency, in an industry where all three are scarce.
Capital intensive is not the same as expensive
People hear that the Nigerian music industry is capital intensive and assume it means you need a large budget. It means something harder. It means the things that move a career here, distribution relationships, press access, playlist relationships, video production, live infrastructure, are gated behind either money or proximity, and most artists start with neither.

So the job is not to find the money. It is to build an advantage out of what you already have, until the money becomes a smaller problem.
The four things you already own
- Content. Not the music, the material around it. What you say, how you say it, and how often. This is the only one that costs nothing but time.
- Community. The people who already know your name. Small is fine. Owned is what matters.
- Catalogue. Everything you have already released, still earning, still discoverable, still working while you sleep.
- Consistency. The compounding one. Also the one almost everybody quits before it pays.
What this looks like in practice
It looks slow. It looks like a year of showing up before anything visibly changes, then a second year where things start arriving that you did not have to chase. Every artist I have worked with who got somewhere sustainable went through that first year, and most of the ones who did not get there quit somewhere inside it.
There is no version of this where the year gets skipped. The artists who look like they skipped it did the year somewhere you were not watching.
Waiting to be discovered is a strategy that costs you the exact years you needed to build.

There is more talent in this industry than anywhere else I have worked. Talent is not the constraint, and pretending it is keeps people stuck.

Consistency Is Not A Personality Trait. It Is A System.
People talk about consistency as though it were discipline. The artists who manage it are the ones who removed the decisions.

Your Streams Went Up. Your Career Did Not.
A number on a dashboard and an audience that will pay you are two different things. Most artists only find that out after the money is gone.
